This paper - a contribution by AAP’s principal architect Abdulatif Almishari to Kuwait’s third participation at the 15th Venice International Biennale (Kuwait  Pavilion 2016) - builds upon the established frameworks by defining the notions of free trade zones, in order to demonstrate how the Five Islands Project aims to redefine zone typology within the specific context of Kuwait.
